Pearson School

Pearson students just completed their first reading challenge of the year,"Hats Off to Reading". Students were challenged to read at least thirty minutes a day and complete a reading log along with a paper hat that included a great quote from their book..  The challenge ran from November 30 through December 11.  One afternoon we all enjoyed a fifteen minute "flash read"- all students were able to experience the community as readers.  We congratulate the students who met the goal.  Pearson readers logged 20,158 pages.  Our top reader in sixth grade read 1,127 pages in that time period.  Students who participated are encouraged to wear a hat on Friday the 18th all day as a symbol reminding all students that reading is a celebration.

Fifth and sixth grade students have embarked on a nonfiction study in writing classes.  They are investigating  how complex nonfiction gets difficult.  Teachers are supporting writing and reading students in developing skills and strategies to hurdle those ever more difficult texts.  Students will pick a topic to study and write about as they investigate and synthesize their new knowledge as well as study author's craft.
